Sometimes You Just Need Someone to Scream With

Coffee’s brewing… can I tell you something? ☕️

Apparently October 6th is the National Collective Screamfest.

Which, honestly, feels like the best idea I’ve heard in quite some time.

The idea is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: collectively, we scream.

And while I fully support this level of emotional efficiency, it got me thinking about something a little bigger.

Sometimes the best kind of connection is having someone you can scream with.

I had coffee with someone today who bought one of our Scream Queen Pillow PACKS. She wasn’t buying it because someone had experienced a major life event. There wasn’t an occasion she needed to commemorate or a perfect sentiment she needed to find.

She bought it to share the experience with a friend.

And I loved that.

Because somewhere along the way, we started treating connection like it always has to be serious.

Sometimes it is.

Sometimes you need the friend who will sit beside you when life hurts and let you say the things you don’t know how to say anywhere else.

But sometimes?

You need a pity party.

A really good one.

You need snacks, comfortable pants and someone who will listen to the entire story—even though they’ve already heard approximately 60% of it.

You need the group text where everyone agrees that yes, this situation is in fact ridiculous.

You need a friend who doesn’t immediately hand you a solution.

She just says, “Oh, we are absolutely screaming about this.”

That’s connection too.

Maybe that’s actually one of the best parts of friendship: having people with whom you don’t have to package everything neatly.

You can be disappointed.

Annoyed.

Overwhelmed.

Dramatic.

Heartbroken.

Or just completely over Tuesday.

And somebody else can sit beside you and say, “Yep. Me too.”

That’s what I want Scream Queen to be.

A Pillow PACK for two friends having a ridiculous pity party.

A reason to gather the girls.

Something to send to the friend whose week has officially gone off the rails.

Or a way to open the door when what’s underneath the screaming isn’t funny at all.

Because sometimes the laugh turns into the conversation you actually needed to have.

And sometimes the person sitting beside you doesn’t need you to make it better.

They just need to know they don’t have to feel it alone.

Maybe connection isn’t always about finding the right words.

Maybe sometimes it’s coffee.

Sometimes it’s showing up.

Sometimes it’s laughing until your stomach hurts.

Sometimes it’s sitting quietly.

And apparently, once a year, it’s collectively screaming into the universe together.

So, in honor of this Collective Scream Day, grab your person.

Complain about the thing.

Throw the pity party.

Say what you’ve been holding in.

Laugh about it if you can.

Cry about it if you need to.

Scream if the occasion calls for it.

Then pour another cup of coffee and stay awhile.

Because the scream might feel good.

But having someone there to hear it?

That’s the part that matters.
